Position Overview:
Under the general supervision of Lab Manager and Head of Department of Chemistry, School of Science, the position holder provides technical support to department’s teaching and research activities, participates in lab management and usually supports two research groups.

Roles & Responsibilities:
Responsibilities
1. Be familiar with principles of laboratory health and safety regulation principles, maintain general tidiness and help ensure all lab teaching and research activities comply with government, University, School, and Department safety policies.
2. Support teaching and lab/practicals for MRes and BEng Material Science and Engineering programmes, e.g. CEN412 - Characterisation of Materials, CEN425 - Experimental Methods in Materials and Mechanics, MSE2AA - Materials for Engineering 1, MSE2BB - Materials Processing, MSE2CC - Group Design Project, and MSE3AA - Materials for Engineering 2.
3. Be able to operate, maintain and troubleshoot experimental equipment, lab apparatus and electronic instruments including tensile/compression, impact, hardness, and fatigue machines; ball-milling, grinding and polishing machines; heat treatment ovens and furnaces, smelting/casting/sintering furnaces, optical and electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA) and Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), etc, as well as to provide relevant training for students.
4. Support designated academic staff within the Department with their research activities, assist academic staff in supervising undergraduate and postgraduate students, assist academic staff with material / consumable / equipment procurement, reimbursement, etc.
5. Assist with the procurement, installation, and maintenance of laboratory equipment. Provide training for new users, perform testing and reporting for internal and external projects, especially assigned major equipment, and monitor the status on LIMS.
6. Assist lab manager with requisitions and receives, stores, inventories chemicals, and laboratory supplies to ensure adequate stock for laboratory experiments.
7. Manage lab waste according to university policies, including classification, and delivery. Manage the controlled chemicals according to university policies, including distribution, record, return etc.
8. Conduct daily and monthly Lab safety inspections, conduct safety risk assessments periodically, find solutions and perform preventive action accordingly.
9. Undertake other duties commensurate with the grade as required by the Lab Manager and HOD.

4. 支持系内指定的学术人员进行研究活动；协助学术人员指导本科生和研究生; 协助学术人员进行材料、消耗品、设备采购、报销等。
5. 协助实验室设备的采购、安装和维护。为新用户提供培训，为内部和外部项目开展测试和报告，特别是指定的的和主要设备，并监控 LIMS 的状态。
6. 协助实验室经理采购并接收、储存和盘点化学品和实验室用品，以确保足够的库存。
7. 根据大学政策管理实验室废物，包括分类、协助转运。根据大学政策管理受控化学品，包括分发、记录、归还等。
8. 进行每日和每月的实验室安全检查，定期进行安全风险评估，寻找解决方案并采取相应的预防措施。
9. 承担实验室经理和 HOD 要求的其他与等级相称的职责。
Qualifications:
Qualifications
1. Master’s degree (or above) in a relevant scientific subject, such as Materials Science and Engineering or Mechanical Engineering with fields like Metallurgy and ceramics as desirable
2. Expertise in material properties, material manufacturing, mechanical testing, material processing, and material characterisation, e.g. XRD, SEM (EDS+EBSD), etc.
3. Previous experience of working as part of a team in a science laboratory, materials laboratory, mechanical workshop, electronic laboratory or electronic workshop is essential, ideally in a higher education environment or in a research institution environment
4. Good written and spoken skills in Chinese and English.
5. Good time management, interpersonal and communication skills.
6. High sense of responsibility, good teamwork spirit and problem-solving capabilities.
7. Experience in supervising and managing students is highly desirable.
8. Excellent publication record in the field of engineering materials and fabrication is desirable.
9. Experience in writing scientific articles in the field of materials science and engineering is desirable.

6. 高度的责任心，良好的团队合作精神和解决问题的能力。
7. 具有监督和管理学生的经验者优先。
8. 在工程材料和制造领域有优秀的出版物记录者优先。
9. 有材料科学与工程领域科学文章撰写经验者优先。
