Principal Accountabilities
* Improve conversion rates across the student journey from enquiry to application to enrolment. Provide personalised communications and support to enhance recruitment in the China market, this will include the delivery of key performance indicators
* Represent the university at external recruitment events in a professional manner and providing specialist advice and guidance to prospective international students, parents and their advisors on all aspects of studying at the university through a variety of communication methods
* Support the Regional Development Manager (UK based) to develop and achieve internationalisation strategies for student recruitment and conversion
Key Tasks
Marketing
* Manage and maintain the university’s official Chinese social media accounts, including WeChat, Weibo, Little Red Book, TouTiao, Bilibili and other relevant platforms. Ensure compliance with platform requirements including account verification and audits
* Manage the China microsite, contributing to web and digital media initiatives and developments including the monitoring of website usage, suggestions for improvements to site structure and content and ensuring that information is correct. Complete a minimum of two comprehensive updates per year
* Develop and publish locally relevant, engaging content for social media, digital marketing campaigns and lead generation/nurture activities in collaboration with the Regional Development Manager
* Localise content from English to Chinese for printed publications, web and social media; maintaining cultural sensitivity and market alignment. Work with current students and alumni to amplify the student voice and peer-to-peer impact
* Monitor university media outputs (newsletters, social media accounts, websites) for potentially market relevant stories and adapt content for Chinese platforms to maximise visibility and engagement
* Build a suite of authentic student testimonials and alumni success stories. Liaise with the international market and alumni teams to ensure strong storytelling and brand alignment
* Provide copywriting, proof reading and design direction to the university. Manage relationships with with external suppliers to ensure quality, cost-efficiency and adherence to brand guidelines
* Contribute to the preparation of marketing collateral including printed materials and online content, ensuring consistency, accuracy and brand integrity
* Localise and share agent communications based on centrally produced html templates, adapting content for local relevance and effectiveness
Research and Reporting
* Present monthly performance reports to the Regional Development Manager with analysis of marketing activities, return on investment and recommendations for improvement
* Develop an understanding of direct competitors and conduct research and analysis to monitor trends in course demand, branding and market strategies across the sector (in the UK and other popular student destinations)
* Perform regular social media listening and news tracking to monitor student sentiment, media narratives, regulatory updates and reputational factors related to UK higher education and Manchester
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of new and emerging digital marketing tools, platforms and trends; assess their relevant for local adaptation and make informed recommendations for how these might be employed to the benefit of the university
General
* Support student and agent communication campaigns and respond to enquiries as necessary
* Co-ordinate in-office and online events and campaigns as needed
* Although staff will have core responsibilities, you may be asked to support with additional tasks or emerging projects based on institutional priorities
Special Feature
* This role requires candidates to have high fluency in English and Mandarin (both written and verbal)
* Flexibility to travel occasionally within China to attend student recruitment events, education fairs, or university-led activities, particularly during peak recruitment periods
Job Requirements
Skills & Abilities
* Excellent Communication, interpersonal and diplomacy skills, including ability to communicate and negotiate effectively with individual from a broad range of backgrounds (Essential)
* The ability to write and edit high quality copy in Chinese and English, targeted at different audiences for different media and proofread with attention to detail (Essential)
* Ability to analyse marketing data, draw conclusions, provide insight and make recommendations. Ability to link marketing spend to strategy and tactics and deliver tangible improvements in performance (Essential)
General & Specialist Knowledge
* Marketing skills including – advertising, media relations, digital marketing, publication production, copywriting, creating of gifs etc. (Essential)
* Knowledge of international education and international student recruitment (Desirable)
* Understanding of Chinese student behaviour and media consumption trends, especially in relation to studying overseas (Desirable)
* Prior experience working in international education, digital marketing or higher education communications (Desirable)
Education & Training
* Educated to degree level or equivalent qualification, or equivalent experience (Essential)
* International Education background (Essential)
* Excellent English (minimum IELTs 6.0 or equivalent) and native/fluent level Mandarin (Essential)
Relevant Experience
* Experience of developing and delivering coherent marketing campaigns and ability to demonstrate successful business outcomes (Essential)
* Specific knowledge and experience of digital marketing tactics and effectiveness, including banner advertising, pay per click, social media and search engine optimization (Essential)
* Experience in a customer service role, demonstrating a strong understanding of and commitment to customer services (Essential)
Special Requirements
* Ability to work independently while maintaining communication with remote teams (Essential)
The job holder will report to and be supported by Regional Development Manager (UK Office).
MMU offers a competitive package which includes basic gross salary, social insurance, housing fund, annual physical exams and generous leave entitlement.
The gross monthly package for this position is RMB 11,000 - RMB 13,000 with annual pro rata leave entitlement of 21-days for Chinese nationals.
